Hey friends, happy hump day! This week is flying by and I’m pretty pumped to get to the weekend already. I had some pictures all ready for What I Ate Wednesday, but then I realized it’s all the prepped food I already showed you on Monday’s post. Instead, I thought I’d give you guys a little update on what’s going on in my world workout-wise.
I think to set the stage, I should give you a brief overview of my workout history….very brief.
Age 18-22: Dance most days (I minored in Dance and performed in school musicals), occasional trip to the campus gym to clock time on an elliptical, but really all I wanted to do was dance.
Age 22-24: Not much, really….gained several pounds in this time frame.
Age 24-26: Had a spare room turned into a home gym. Did a lot of elliptical work and Jillian Michaels videos.
Age 27-30: Discovered running. Started hitting the gym at 5 AM for HIIT runs, treadmill runs, and strength circuits. I had a pretty consistent routine during this time.
Which brings us to now….to be honest, for the past 6 months or so, waking up at 4:45 AM to get to the gym just hasn’t seemed as appealing to me. These days my favorite workouts have been hot vinyasa, barre, and running.
The reason I bring it up is that I’ve almost felt guilty for changing my routine so much and not making it to my beloved gym at 5 AM. I keep telling myself I’m going to “get back into it.” Then, when I hit my snooze button 4 too many times and miss my shot, I feel bad about it. There’s nothing to “get back into.” I’m still working out regularly, still in shape, just doing it in a different way!
The best workout for you is the one you’re going to love doing. I’ve been telling people forever to find something they like to do, so why haven’t I been following my own advice? Well, I have officially decided to stop. If I make it at 5, I make it. If I don’t? I’ll just work it in somewhere else in my day and not worry about it.
Maybe that means working out in the evening. Maybe it means hitting up another yoga class after work instead of that run. Or running outside. Maybe I’ll suddenly start hating barre and find myself back at the gym at 5 AM doing something else. As long as I’m moving and enjoying what I do, that’s all that matters.
How have your workouts changed over the years?
