Another Monday, another weekend recap. I hope you all enjoyed the past couple days as much as I did!
Friday night was my Glow Run 5k, which I had major reservations about beforehand. I got into the car to head over to the race and started laughing out loud as I looked at all the scary black clouds rolling in. The second I parked my car, the downpour began. Lighting. Heavy rain. Thunder. It was a disaster.
I parked the car behind my gym, which happened to be one block from the race start, and took refuge inside for a little while.
Eventually, the rain died down a bit and I took my opportunity to head over to the race to meet up with some people from my yoga studio. I saw a few other people I knew while I was there and was able to hang out a bit while the crowd waited. Because of the lightning, the race was delayed by about 15 minutes. Finally, after huddling under tents for a while, they announced that the race would start in 5 minutes!
Despite the steady rain still falling, all 900 (according to the website, though I think the rain scared some people off!) of us gathered at the start and got ready to run.
Apparently I was one of the only people that didn’t wear the neon shirt that came with our packet. Something about running 3 miles in the rain in a cotton t-shirt seemed like a terrible idea to me.
The race started in a fast blur and we all took off! Since it was a fun run, it wasn’t timed and I’m not entirely sure how long it took me to run the 3.1 miles to the finish. The atmosphere was so much fun, though! People of all ages were decked out in glow sticks and colorful outfits. The rain didn’t bring any of us down and my legs felt great through the entire run.
After what I estimated to be right about 30 minutes, I crossed the finish and the rain had pretty much stopped by that point.
After chugging some water, I headed home for a much-needed shower! The pets were thrilled to wear my glow sticks as decorations. And by thrilled, I mean Bella.
Coco wore some, too, but she wasn’t nearly as happy about it.
Saturday morning, I took my time getting up before heading to a 60 minute hot yoga class. It felt great to stretch out my muscles and I enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve discovered that chair pose is a favorite of mine, especially up on my toes. I love working my quads!
The rest of Saturday involved some grocery shopping, a long nap, and our mini date night to Paul’s Deli. I won a gift certificate last week and it arrived just in time for us to use it for a dinner. I ordered a couple of beers to start.
For dinner, I went with their Greek salad, which included some spanakopita on top.
It was tasty, but I found myself scarfing some of Riley’s fries on the side to counteract all the lettuce! After dinner, we’d had plans to head out to a bar to hear a local band play, but Riley decided he didn’t feel like it once we were already home. I tried not to pout about it too much 😉
Sunday morning meant lazy breakfast time. Riley cooked us some scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and whole grain toast and it was all delicious!
We spent most of Sunday at home. I talked to my dad on the phone for a long time to wish him Happy Father’s Day, and spent a lot of time on the back deck enjoying the gorgeous weather.
Eventually, Riley noticed me pouting out of boredom and suggested we go to Bonefish Grill for some dinner. I can be a bit high maintenance when I realize I have to compete with the World Cup AND the golf US Open for his attention. I become even MORE high maintenance when I realize that the sports are winning.
He was nice enough to take me out for a bit, though, and we had a few drinks and appetizers at the bar. Afterwards, we headed home to get cozy and wait for the season finale of Game of Thrones to start.
And that’s my weekend in a nutshell! I didn’t get to see 22 Jump Street, but hopefully we’ll make it sometime this week. I got in two great workouts, quality time with Riley, and plenty of relaxation, which is all I can ask for in a weekend.
Today starts Freshman Orientation at work and I’m helping out with registration. This is a really fun day because we get to see the same students that we recruited for 2 years. Having them officially arrive on campus is a great feeling and I’m excited to see some familiar faces. Hope you all have a great day!
What were you up to this weekend?
Are you watching the World Cup? I’m trying very hard to get into it, mostly so I’ll have something to talk about with Riley. Luckily, the US plays tonight, so I’m taking that as my chance to get excited about soccer!
