You guys, it’s officially travel season for me! By the time you read this, I’ll be on my way down to Charlotte, NC for the week. I’m spending the whole week visiting high schools, recruiting students, and hopefully enjoying my down time. This is the start of my 10th travel season since I started working in Admission.
As fun as it is to meet prospective students, being on the road alone, being “on” constantly, driving in the car, and sleeping in unfamiliar places can wear you down after a while. Over the years, I’ve learned to treat my recruiting trips like mini vacations, so I look up good looking places to eat, ideas for working out, and other ways to incorporate some fun into the week. Considering I was deathly ill during my trip last fall, I intend to enjoy myself this time around.
For my week in Charlotte, I’ve already found a hot yoga class I want to take and looked up a bunch of restaurants. There are a million vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Charlotte, so I’m making it my mission to check out a few of them. Even though I still eat meat a couple times a week, I’m excited to try some more plant-based foods while I’m away. I have no idea what cashew ricotta or tempeh tastes like, so this is my week to experiment and see how it goes. My hotel has free breakfast and apps in the concierge lounge, though, so “free” may win me over for a few of those meals….
Anyway, let’s back up to the weekend and catch up! What did you do this weekend, anything fun? Mine was quick, but good. I left work early on Friday to get some things done after picking up my rental car for the next 2 weeks. After a trip to Aldi, I grabbed some juice at JuiceFix (aka my new favorite place in the world).
After my juice, I headed over to the outlets to do some shopping for work clothes. I got a couple good pieces for work, but also ended up with these JCrew shorts for just $8. Score!
Horrible photo, sorry. Anyway, they’re navy blue and super comfy.
Friday evening I was on my own for dinner. Riley was playing in a golf tournament and they fed him lunch and dinner. I took advantage of having Riley out of the house to watch Kyle XY on Hulu.
I have no idea why I’m watching this show. It is terrible. BUT I got sucked in for some reason and I know Riley would judge me hard-core if he were around. So I watched my show in shame and quickly switched it over to something else when Riley got home.
Saturday morning was spent at work. I gave the presentation to about 150 guests and EVERYTHING went wrong in our building. Somehow, we pulled it off and the guests had a great experience, but it was pretty stressful! After work, I did a little more shopping for travel-sized stuff and did a bit of cleaning/decorating around the house.
I actually cooked Saturday night! I made some Banza chickpea pasta and topped it with chicken sausage on one half for Riley and just sauce and cheese for me, then baked it.
Sunday was just the laziest of days and it was perfect after six days of working. I slept in, had coffee out on the porch, read my book, napped for a solid 2 hours, got a mani/pedi, and lounged on the couch the rest of the day.
(I had to include the failed “paw to the face” selfie with Coco haha)
Now here’s hoping I don’t have any traffic on the ride down to Charlotte. I’m arming myself with audiobooks and podcasts to keep myself entertained, so it should go by quickly.
Wish me luck and hope you all have a great Monday!
How was your weekend?
Do you have any Charlotte recommendations for me?
