Anyone else feeling like Christmas is sneaking up on us way too soon this year? I need things to slow the heck down, at least long enough for me to finish my shopping! I’m having vague recollections of a day in early November when I decided I was going to get all my shopping done super early. Ha! Instead of shopping, I decided to share this HIIT 5K treadmill workout for you instead.
It’s tempting to skip out on workouts this time of year. Holiday parties, sugar comas, and changes in our routines make it easy to make excuses. I’ve missed a few workouts myself, so I get it! It’s so important to stay active during the holidays, though, especially knowing there’s an increase in stress (and sugar!) this time of year.
I tested this little workout out yesterday and had a blast. I get pretty distracted when I’m working out, especially these days, so this was the perfect solution. It’s a HIIT treadmill workout that breaks your run down into half-mile increments. Each half mile has a different challenge, so you definitely won’t get bored. This makes the time FLY by and you’re finished before you know it.
For reference, here are the speeds I used for each section (I’m not super fast, so feel free to change this up):
- 5.8 mph
- 6.2 mph
- 5.8 mph
- 7.0 mph and 6.0 mph
- 8.0 mph and 3.7 mph
- 9.5 mph
I was super sweaty by the time this was over!
This workout is designed for the treadmill, but you could easily adapt it to outdoors if you have a tracker app or a watch. The only challenging section might be the hills, but you would repeat one of the other segments instead.
Do your workouts change this time of year?
Have you finished your shopping yet?
Do you run outdoors or indoors in the winter?
