It’s amazing what five days off can do for a person! I’m back in the real world after a pretty amazing break and I hope you all had a great weekend as well.
Thanksgiving morning started out with coffee and the Macy’s parade. I ate like a hobbit and celebrated a “first” breakfast of cinnamon rolls and coffee.
I then enjoyed “second” breakfast, courtesy of Riley. I’ve discovered the frozen hash brown patties at Trader Joe’s and I think I’m in love. I know many people “save up” on Thanksgiving and don’t eat breakfast, but I can never skip my favorite meal of the day, especially on a special occasion.
After breakfast, Riley and I headed up to Richmond to spend the afternoon with my parents, sister, niece, and my sister’s new boyfriend. I failed to get any pictures of us, but I did manage to get plenty of the food! We had a pretty awesome feast and although I had high hopes for myself, I didn’t even make it through my first plate. I’m a total lightweight.
The highlights for me were my mom’s sweet potato casserole and my sister’s stuffing. Since I just showed up with a Trader Joe’s pumpkin pie (and suffered much heckling from mom and sister), I was on cleanup duty, which is pretty much the story of my life. I won’t cook, but I can sure clear a sink real fast!
After a stop at Riley’s dad’s house, we ended up turning in super early. Luckily, I got in plenty of rest for Black Friday shopping. I’ve discovered a “safe” window of time to get stuff done in Williamsburg. Living across the street from the outlet mall is handy because I learn when the busy times are. When we drove past on Thanksgiving night, there were ridiculous lines around the building to get into certain stores. At 6:30 AM Friday morning, however, there was basically no one there.
I power shopped for 4 hours and got a lot done. Christmas presents for family, toys and blankets for various charities, plus a couple things for me and Riley. I had a running list of items we needed that I wasn’t willing to pay full price for, like throw pillows for the living room. I managed to get through whole outlet mall and several other big stores around town before it started getting busy.
My favorite deal was a pair of New Balance sneakers for $24.99.
After shopping, I spent the rest of the day running outside and relaxing. We’ve had weirdly warm weather around here, so it was nice to spend time outdoors.
Saturday, I went for another run outside, then hit up Elements Spa for an hour long massage. Riley got a cash bonus at work and shared half with me, so I decided to go crazy and treat myself.
The massage felt amazing! I’ve gotten on a kick lately when it comes to the whole spa/relaxation thing. It’s mostly been bubble baths and face masks at home, so it was really nice to go somewhere else and have all the hard work done for me. After several days of running and workouts, my muscles loved the extra attention!
Riley had the day off on Sunday so we slept in, had brunch, then drank mimosas while decorating the house for Christmas and watching football.
And that about catches us up! I’m actually looking forward to heading into the office and catching up with my co-workers after our short break. Here’s to the last day of November!
What was the highlight of your weekend?
Do you go to the spa regularly?
