It’s September! You know what that means, right?
I won’t even pretend to be chill about the upcoming tsunami of pumpkin shit headed our way. I want all of it! I’ve been keeping fall candles from Bath & Body Works in storage until this very moment. I plan on putting one in every room of the house and lighting them all.
Aside from the fact that it’s Friday, it’s also the start of Labor Day weekend, aka the official end of summer here. The weather doesn’t look awesome, but I’m sure I’ll still do something fun. One of our friends is visiting from FL for the big fantasy football draft (can you feel my apathy from where you are?), so Riley will be pretty pre-occupied with a guys weekend. We’ll hopefully do something as a group, though. There’s a new sushi place right by our neighborhood, so I’m kind of hoping to check it out.
Before I get into my “favorites” from the week, I just wanted to say a quick word about everyone in Texas that’s been affected by Hurricane Harvey. There’s not much anyone can say when there’s devastation and destruction like what we’ve seen this week. It’s just unreal to me. Unfortunately, for those in that area, it’s very real for them. There is SO much need and will be for a very long time. We have donated to the Houston Food Bank in lieu of some of the larger operations, like the Red Cross, and I hope that going straight to the local organizations can help with the more immediate needs.
Symphony Under The Stars
Last night Riley and I met up with our friends Tara and Brendan for a free concert by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
We snagged a great spot and laid out a blanket, snacked on olives, feta cheese, hummus, and wine. My favorite part was when they played a medley of songs from the musical South Pacific. I am a musical theater geek at heart. It was basically a perfect end-of-summer evening!
Have you ever seen this kid on the Ellen show? She’s the most adorable little kid and is a huge history buff. I recently saw this video of her in Colonial Williamsburg and just about died from all the cuteness. I also love the Williamsburg highlights, obviously!
My first thought when I heard about Lidl opening stores in our area was, “Good Lord, how many grocery stores do we need?!” I have to admit, though, that I’m a big fan. I think it might be better than Aldi. I’ve only gone twice, but the deals are amazing. They also have partnerships with regional farms, so I like knowing that a lot of what I’m buying is local.
The prices are insane on many of the items. Produce was super cheap, which is harder and harder to find it seems. I really wish they’d open one in Williamsburg because shopping on my lunch break and cramming stuff into the communal office fridge is not exactly ideal.
Life gets away from you so fast, doesn’t it? I realized it had been forever since I updated my static pages at the top of the blog. I went through the other day and updated my favorite restaurants page, the travel page, and a couple others. Go check ’em out!
Labor Day Sales
Many of these sales also have bonus cash-back offers from Ebates. If you’ve never used it before, I highly recommend it. I just got almost $50 cash back from buying normal stuff online. Get the Google Chrome plugin, though, so you don’t forget to get Ebates credit for an online purchase. If you have the plugin and go to a site with a cash-back offer, a button will pop up prompting you to activate it.
