One of my favorite things about San Diego was how much there was to do outdoors. Judging by how many people I saw running, biking, and hiking, I had to wonder if any of the residents actually work or if they just exercise all day. Not that I’d blame them, seems like a pretty awesome life!
Here in Southeastern VA it’s pretty flat, so the second I got the chance to do some hiking, I was all about it. One morning, I drove up to Torrey Pines State Reserve to get in a hike and take in some views of the Pacific.
With over 2,000 acres of land and a bunch of trails to choose from, there’s plenty to keep you occupied there! I chose the popular beach trail and headed out to explore.
I made a point to take a picture of this deep ravine to send to my mother.
When I told her I was going hiking, she made a point to tell me a story about a random girl who fell off a cliff while taking a selfie after jumping the safety fence. Apparently, she thought I was also inclined to do something like that, so I made sure to send her a pic and let her know I’d be going rogue soon.
Ok, end side story. Back to the views! There were seriously no words for the views I had. The combination of gorgeous cliffs and ocean is something we really don’t have here on the East Coast. The trail itself was an easy one, so I was able to concentrate on taking it all in. The trail took me up to the top, where I had the most perfect views of the Pacific.
Then I worked my way down to the beach, where the views were equally amazing.
The trip back up was more of a fun challenge and gave me a bit more of a workout. The whole trip only took an hour, so if I’d had more time I definitely would’ve checked out another trail in the reserve.
