Hellooooo 2017! I can’t believe the new year is already here, but I’m pretty excited about it. I’m also (weirdly) pretty excited to go back to work today. Maybe it’s the routine and feeling useful beyond obsessive vacuuming, but I also missed my co-workers, so I can’t wait to hear all about their holiday breaks.
New Year’s Eve started out on a super active note for me. I spent most of the day in my gym clothes, starting with an early barre class with my friend Tara. After barre, we headed to the colonial area for a quick breakfast at Aroma’s.
We finished our coffee while walking 30 minutes through town, checking out the holiday decorations for the last time and seeing all the horses and cows walking around.
After our walk, I power cleaned the house, then took the pup out for another walk.
My fitbit was loving me and I’d hit my 10k steps by 2 PM!
Later on, Riley and I headed out to our favorite NYE spot across the street for a couple drinks and dinner.
They had a band playing, but we weren’t all that into it and ended up at home and in our PJs by 10 PM. I broke out some strawberries and a bottle of French champagne so we could celebrate in style at home.
It was a far cry from the “Did we get robbed?” night, but it was still a good time!
Goals for 2017
I’m not big on making lofty goals for the new year, but I can’t help myself, so I set a handful of goals for 2017.
1) Be more consistent with my yoga and challenge myself more.
I usually have something about yoga on my “goals” list each year and this year is no different. I’m planning to attend yoga at least once a week, but hopefully twice a week. In addition, I’d like to push myself to learn some more advanced moves. I’m going to ask my yoga studio for advice on which classes to look into to help me with this!
2) Drink less each week.
I love my wine. It’s a relaxing part of my evening to pour a glass of wine, catch up with Riley, and enjoy our quiet evenings at home. According to the internet (Web MD, to be exact), however, I’m indulging a bit too much. Part of the problem is that if I see Riley pouring a glass of wine, I want to have one with him. We’ve decided together to declare certain nights week as “wine-free” nights so we can help each other out. I hope to use this as an opportunity to expand my ever-growing tea collection, so if you have any favorites let me know!
3) Learn some French
Part of the fun of booking a vacation for me is the months leading up to it. I love to learn as much as I can about the place we’re visiting, so the next few months will be all things French for me. I’ve found a few apps that seem like a fun way to learn the basics. Apparently, I have a pretty sweet French accent already. This is according to the co-workers I run around saying “merci” and “tres bien” to all day. They hate me.
And that’s it! I try to avoid setting too many goals because then it’s really hard to keep track. If I have a small number, though, I can really dig in and make an effort.
Here’s to 2017!
