Happy Friday!! Just one 12+ hour work day and a day-long work event tomorrow stand in between me and the weekend lol. It’s fine. The upside is that this is our last events weekend of the season. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel growing larger by the second, proof that summer is almost here. In the meantime, I’m staying close to my coffee mug and getting things done.
What started out as a stressful and hectic week has mostly mellowed out. Once my events are done for the weekend, I hope to get outside as much as possible. We have sunshine and warm temps on the forecast.
In my usual Friday fashion, I’m sharing some of my favorite things from the week and a little of what’s happening in my world right now. Enjoy!
After work on Wednesday, Riley and I ventured out for a quick bite and happy hour. We try to go out together at least once a week. It’s nice to have at least a few hours out as a couple in something other than PJs!
For this week’s date night, we went to Baker’s Crust. They have locations from Richmond to Norfolk, so if you live anywhere in the area you should check them out. They also have a fantastic happy hour! I enjoyed their $5 wine special.
Then their $6 cheese pizza special.
I ate almost that entire pizza by myself. Riley got some yummy looking tacos and fries with fancy dipping sauces. Baker’s Crust is usually known for their salads and sandwiches, so to realize they have so many great bar options at happy hours was a nice surprise. We managed 2 drinks each, a pizza, two tacos, and fries for around $50 with tip. We will definitely be back!
Big Little Lies
I started watching Big Little Lies over the weekend and finished it this week. It’s only 7 episodes, which is sad because it was so good I didn’t want it to end! It took me a couple episodes to get into it, but once I did I was hooked. So many incredible actors were in the show and it was really well done. I highly recommend it if you have HBO.
A few weeks ago I was at the grocery store and they were sampling rosé wine. Surprisingly, I really liked it. I guess I always assumed that rosé was super sweet, but that’s not the case at all. My favorite one is Matua’s pinot noir rosé. If anyone else has suggestions for some good ones, send ’em my way!
So, this week has not been the most productive for me, fitness-wise. I’ve hit the snooze button more than I’ve hit the gym. I’m determined, however, to make sure I hit my 10,000 steps each day and not feel totally lazy! On my less-than-motivated weeks, I often turn to this little section of my office.
I’m lucky enough that I have an office that’s private, so several times over my lunch break this week I’ve shut my door and put a show on Hulu. My go-to has been to jog in place. Every 1K-2K steps I’ll break and complete a quick series of pushups, squats, and lunges. I do the circuit for about 40 minutes, usually hitting around 6-7K steps. Then I have another 20 to eat my lunch and cool off.
The upside is that I get in some activity and get my heart rate up. The downside is that it’s not a big sweaty workout since I still have to be presentable the rest of the day. It’s an imperfect system, but it’s kept me from feeling like a bum.
Although my weekend will be short, I’m really looking forward to it. My cleaning and laundry have fallen way behind, so here’s hoping I can get it all done and still do some fun things. Have a great weekend, friends!
What’s your favorite informal way to stay active? I like doing the mini-workout I said above, but I also take walks around campus when I can. Our office takes up the whole floor, so I try to walk to people’s offices instead of calling or emailing them so that I’m not stuck in my chair all day.
