To say that this past weekend was amazing would be an understatement. It was nothing short of perfection and I had such an amazing time celebrating Megan and her upcoming wedding! It’s been a while since I had a good girls weekend and getting to hang out with 7 incredible women was just a total blast.
Get ready for 8 million pictures because I had a terrible time narrowing them down. I took a lot, but some of these are also courtesy of my friend Joanna, who snapped a lot of good ones that I missed. Ok, here we go!
Friday morning was a whirlwind getting ready, but I eventually made it to my friend JaneBerry’s house in Richmond, where we packed up her SUV and hit the road to the mountains outside Charlottesville, VA.
Once we arrived, we were blown away by how gorgeous the house was! We stayed in the Dancing Bear cabin with Lydia Mountain Lodge & Log Cabins. It was the perfect choice because the house was beautiful, but it also came fully stocked with everything we would need, including every kitchen appliance, spices, and utensils. We got to work right away decorating the place for Megan’s arrival.
Once Megan and two of the other girls arrived, we cooked dinner, listened to music, got in the hot tub, and just celebrated all being together.
Saturday morning started early for me, per usual. I took advantage of the quiet to sip some coffee on the back deck before the craziness of the day started.
I also saw a little baby black bear walk through our backyard! Sadly, I wasn’t quick enough to snap a picture…..Once the rest of the girls were up, it was time to get cooking and get our brunch set up. We had quiche, a blueberry croissant bake, muffins, bacon, fruit, and cupcakes in addition to a mimosa bar.
Once the rest of the girls arrived, we stuffed our faces, drank some mimosas, and caught up with each other until the next part of the day started.
At noon, our driver from Commonwealth Wine Tours picked us up at the house to start our afternoon of winery tours. This was probably my favorite part of the whole trip. Our driver was amazing, taking pictures of us, keeping us on schedule, and making sure we stayed hydrated. We hit up four different wineries, which was perfect for a five hour tour.
Our first stop was Keswick Vineyards, which had incredible views and great outdoor seating. We spent about an hour tasting the wines and taking pictures outside.
Our next stop after that was Horton Vineyards. To be honest, this was probably our least favorite in terms of ambiance, but they had over 43 wines and basically let us taste to our heart’s content for only $5, so we weren’t complaining too much!
The third stop was Barboursville Vineyards, which is one of the more famous stops. The views here were incredible and we decided to skip the formal tasting and have a picnic instead. I’d packed some of my favorite Trader Joe’s goodies and some of the girls bought a few bottles from inside, so we spent an hour snacking, toasting, and enjoying the gorgeous scenery.
It was perfect! Plus, we avoided all the big crowds inside, so that made it even better.
Our fourth and final stop on the tour was at Reynard Florence Vineyards. They were a much smaller winery, but it was one of the prettiest ones and I really liked their wine. Their little corgi hung out with us while we did our tasting and I ended up buying a bottle of their cabernet franc.
The party continued back at the house, despite a power outage after a quick storm rolled through. We survived, though, and had fun eating dinner, drinking more wine (probably too much wine….), and showering Megan with wedding gifts.
We wrapped things up Sunday morning with breakfast, then headed home, which gave me plenty of time to clean the house and get ready for we the week ahead. I had plans to go to the gym, but Coco had other ideas, so we snuggled instead. You can’t see her face because she buried it in my armpit. She clings whenever I’ve been gone….
And now the two month countdown is on to Megan’s lakeside wedding in September. I can’t wait!
