Happy Friday! Another busy week is in the books and now I’m ready to kick off my heels, throw on some stretchy pants and get cozy. The temperature has dropped quite a bit around here, so it definitely feels like winter!
Even though this week was busy, it was really good. I found out Riley’s MCL isn’t actually torn. It’s something to do with the cartilage instead, which is apparently much better. He’s got an appointment with a physical therapist next week, so hopefully everything goes well!
On Monday, I went up to Richmond for the day with a lot of my co-workers for our annual receptions at the historic Jefferson Hotel. We had a luncheon for school counselors earlier in the day.
In between events, we explored the hotel a bit and took in all the beautiful Christmas decorations. This place goes ALL out at the holidays and everywhere you look something is decorated.
I also got introduced to Cava, a build-your-own Mediterranean style restaurant. I was super impressed and I really wish they had one near my work!
Mid-week, Riley and I tried out a new brewpub in town called Amber Ox Public House. We were SO impressed.
Amber Ox makes their own beer, but they also have a huge cocktail and wine menu. We started out with a gin cocktail for me and a flight of their beer for Riley.
We spent some time perusing the menu and were so impressed with how much of their food is locally sourced. They listed all of the farms they work with right on the menu, which I loved seeing. All of their farms are here in Virginia!
Riley ordered some beet pickled eggs as a starter.
He also ordered the ham board, which was essentially a southern version of a charcuterie platter. It was beautiful and the biscuits were amazing.
I had their pimiento mac and cheese and, you guys…..I was in love with that bowl of deliciousness.
It doesn’t look like much, but it was seriously incredible! I could eat that every day and be a happy woman.
The whole restaurant was run really well. The kitchen was visible from the bar area and the chef was giving his cooks pep talks and checking everything over. He spent a minute or two chatting with me and Riley and the owner or manager (we weren’t sure) also chatted with us. We will definitely be back and I can see this place doing really well in Williamsburg. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend it!
The rest of my week has been work work work. We’ve been meeting as a committee to make decisions on some of the tougher cases. Luckily, one of our co-workers supplied snacks for us!
And that about wraps things up! This weekend will be cold and dreary, at least tomorrow. The forecast keeps switching between rain and snow, so we may get a mix of the two. You’ll find me curled up by the fireplace with my book if you need me.
Have a great weekend!
What’s the last new restaurant you tried?
