Hey friends! I missed you all yesterday, but I had a good reason. Scratch that, I don’t have a good reason. I just didn’t get it together Sunday night. But I’m here now, and that’s what counts.
I had a low-key weekend, which I’m always a fan of. Riley and I participated in “No Shower Lazy Saturday,” due to the gross rain and cold. We lazed around the house all day, then made some homemade pizza that night. I spent Sunday going to hot yoga, watching football, cleaning, and de-flea-ing my house. Yeah, all three pets have been scratching themselves silly so I got to clean every blanket/sheet/towel in the house and medicate them. Joy. I also spent some time baking, which I hadn’t done in a while!
Riley saw this tasty looking cake in one of our cookbooks (it’s a Paula Deen recipe) and requested it.
After making a run to Food Lion at halftime for a couple ingredients, I rushed home to start the cake and realized we were out of baking soda. At that point, I refused to out again, so I had to get creative. According to the internet, I could substitute baking powder, so I attempted to do that. The cake took two freakin’ hours and while the flavors are delicious, it’s not quite as….fluffy as I’d like it. That’s why you only get a picture of it from the top. It’s embarrassing to see how thin and dense the layers turned out.
I also put to use some advice I got from a Bath & Body Works employee. You know how jar candles always end up with that extra wax along the sides? Well, I learned a genius trick to use it all up rather than throwing the candle away.
Just pop that sucker in the freezer overnight, then run a knife around the edge and the remaining wax will slide right out. Voila!
You can use the wax remnants in a wax burner to keep your house smelling nice.
Some of you may have known about doing that for years, but I was feeling very proud of myself for learning that little trick.
I picked up some sunbutter at Target on an impulse and I have to say, I’m in love. That stuff is the bomb and I’m putting it on everything I can get my hands on. Breakfast yesterday was two multigrain waffles topped with banana slices and sunbutter.
I also spent forever online last night perusing wordpress themes and design options. I’m itching for a KRFF facelift (by the time you read this, I may have already made some changes), so any suggestions you guys have would be much appreciated!
That’s about all I’ve been up to! Riveting stuff, I know. I’ve got a treadmill run and ab workout on the agenda for this morning, then I’m off to vote before heading to work. Don’t forget to hit the polls today!
What’s your favorite nut butter? Have you ever tried sunbutter?
What’s the last thing you baked?
Bloggers- did you pay someone to custom design your blog, do it yourself completely, or something in-between?
