Happy Monday! Long time no talk. I needed a bit of a break from the blog last week, partly because I was really busy at work, but also because I didn’t really have anything nice to say. The events from last weekend kind of kicked all the pep out of my step and I just didn’t feel like writing.
I’m back, though, and I’m especially excited because…..today’s the day!! Solar Eclipse day! Who’s excited? Well, if you don’t live in the states you’re probably not, but I am pumped. Even though we’re not in the path of totality for the eclipse, the sun should get almost 90% covered where I live. Like just about everyone, though, I waited until the last minute to buy the special glasses you need and literally no one had any left in stock. My mom tried to be helpful and told me to make a viewer out of a cereal box.
I’m allowed to make fun of homeschoolers because I was, in fact, a homeschooler. We’re a bunch of dorks. Wandering around campus during the work day with a box on my head was not an ideal option, though, so I held out hope.
Sunday afternoon a guy posted on Facebook that he had about 50 to sell and to meet him at a local restaurant. I sped over there and spent $15 of my hard-earned dollars on those suckers (I got there just before he sold out) and now I’m good to go!
Anyway, aside from that excitement, my weekend was pretty good. I hit up the Saturday farmer’s market for some flowers and kombucha.
I got a peach mint flavor that was amazing! Later on Saturday I went to the gym and tackled about 4.5 miles.
I made homemade almond milk lattes.
Made taco bowls for dinner…
And met some of our friends out for a drink nearby on Saturday evening.
Sunday morning started out with a barre class.
Followed by beach time with Riley at the river.
After the beach, Riley and I went to Sweet Frog for a cold treat. They sell Dole Whip there and I’d heard it was amazing. Um, it was incredible. How had I never had it before?
I want to go back immediately and buy a bucket of that stuff.
After my eclipse glasses adventure Sunday afternoon, I crawled into bed with Coco for some more reading and snuggling.
She is so spoiled. She literally gets under the covers with my and lays her head on my shoulder. I tried to nap, but for such a tiny cat she has a very loud snore.
Sunday evening was a quiet night at home with Riley. He cooked us up a seafood dinner of fish and local crabcakes and then we relaxed and watched Game of Thrones.
Now it’s back to the grind! This week is bittersweet for me. It’s my last official “summer Fridays off” week. I’ve been living the life since the beginning of May and it’s all about to end. Cue quiet sobbing and pondering if I should change careers. My travel calendar for the fall is already filling up and it’ll be here before I know it.
I thought to kick off my motivation for the week I’d quickly outline the goals I’ve set for myself. Hopefully it’ll help keep me accountable!
1) Keep meat consumption to three meals. As I looked back on last week I realized I’d only eaten meat at three meals the whole week. Not too shabby! Two of those meals the meat was locally purchased at the farmer’s market, which I feel pretty good about. I think I can definitely do it again this week.
2) Workouts: I’m hoping to run 2-3 times, attend a yoga class, and go to barre at least once. I’m already signed up to go to a special class at my studio that’s modeled after The Class in NYC, which is apparently a big deal. Should be fun!
3) Read two books. I’m halfway through book #1, so I’m pretty confident in this one.
That’s it! Haha. My other goals are all work-related and I’m sure you don’t want to hear about them.
Have a great Monday and, if you plan to watch the eclipse, don’t stare at the sun!
How was your weekend?
What’s one goal you’re setting for yourself this week?
