Happy Wednesday! I hope your week is going well so far. Mine is rolling right along and things are pretty busy. At least we’re that much closer to the weekend, am I right?
For the longest time on Wednesdays I’d share a full day of meals with you guys. I haven’t done it in a while, but let me know if you miss reading them. Instead of just talking food, I thought I’d spend some time with you guys today just giving some updates on life in general. Here’s a bit of what’s happening in my world!
Food & Fitness
If I’m being honest, I haven’t been super intentional about my food or fitness and it’s been great. I eat when I’m hungry and I work out when I feel like moving. For the past few months it’s really been that simple. I don’t overthink either one, which has been really refreshing.
I used to make feeble attempts to carefully plan out my workouts for the week. I’d make sure I squeezed in an “arm” day, even though I hate working out my arms. I would never stick to the plan because it wasn’t a plan I was excited about. Everywhere I looked, though, people were on a “plan.” A Whole30 plan. A marathon training plan. A cut-out-all-the-carbs/sugar/alcohol/happiness plan. I just don’t have it in me to get on board with that these days.
Last week I was awake super early and took advantage of the time to squeeze in a run before work. I’m not even sure if I covered 2 miles, but I didn’t overthink it. I had limited time before I had to get to work, I felt like moving, and when I had a few extra minutes at the end I decided to wander through the garden instead of trying to get in an extra mile.
My meals have been the same. In a way, I think I’m actually eating less because I’m just not thinking about food until I’m hungry, so there’s no mindless snacking. When I go out to eat I think about what sounds most satisfying, not what dish has the least amount of calories. I’m still eating a lot of healthy foods, but that’s because I genuinely crave and enjoy them, not because I’m trying to punish myself with vegetables.
Ironically, my stomach has been flatter, my clothes fit better, and I feel better about myself as a result. Who knew?
The house is…..well, it’s coming. I’d envisioned this perfect transition where my house immediately felt like home right away. For some reason, that feeling just hasn’t quite kicked in yet, despite setting up the most adorable bar cart.
It could be the fact that the AC isn’t quite reaching our master bedroom, but I feel like I haven’t gotten a good night’s sleep in a while. It could also be the fact that the pets haven’t quite fully adjusted. Except for Coco, that is. She didn’t blink an eye and I’m so happy she’s her usual self.
Bella’s had a hard time, though, and it’s tough. I know she’s not comfortable on the hard floors downstairs and she’s not able to go up the stairs to be near us at night. She’s peed on the floor three times since we moved in and I can’t help but feel incredibly guilty for doing this to her.
I know that she’s moved more times in her life than I have and she’ll probably be just fine, but I can’t help feeling sad that I took her away from her home at such an old age.
I think once we officially say goodbye to our old place next week I’ll feel differently, but in the meantime it’s been a harder transition than I expected. I’ll get there, though!
What work? Just kidding, but seriously this is one of my favorite times of the year because it’s so quiet. I started making a more conscious effort to take my vacation days and step away from the office in the summer and I hope to continue that trend into August.
I have one work trip to take this summer, but otherwise it’s planning for the fall, year-end reports, and taking off allll the Fridays.
Today is officially the first day of summer! It feels like I’ve been in summer mode since May 1 (and I have), but now that the craziness of the move is over, I’m turning my attention to how I plan to spend my time over the next couple months.
- Attending more local events. There are always summer festivals, concerts, and other fun things that I never go to. I’m hoping I can get to a couple things before summer is over.
- Hit the beach! Always a favorite of mine, but once Riley has Fridays off with me soon I hope we can go together.
- A trip to NYC. I’m excited about this one because I get to cross it off in two days! I’m headed up to spend the weekend with two of my best girlfriends and I think it’ll be some much needed chore-less girl time.
- Get a massage. My mom gave me a gift certificate for one back at Christmas and I keep neglecting to book it. I’ve put it off until I “really need it.” Ha! I’d say I need it right about now.
- Find a pool to go to. Or a friend with a pool. As much as I love the beach I do not love swimming in river water. I’m hoping I can get some pool time during these super hot months!
That about catches us up I think. Let me know what’s been going on with you lately!
Pick one (or more) updates to share with me- food/fitness, home, work, summer goals….what’s new with you?
