Well guys, we made it to Friday. Is anyone else just feeling drained after this week? I’ve gone back and forth between feeling incredibly angry and incredibly sad about what happened in Las Vegas. Add that to all the other things happening in the world and it’s really easy to just feel defeated. Part of me didn’t even feel like writing a Friday Favorites post this week, to be honest. I was all set to skip it and just wallow, but then I saw Ellen’s response to it all the other day and it changed my mindset. The only thing I can do right now (other than contact my representatives) is continue focusing on the good things in my world, and there are a lot of them. I hope you’ll join me in doing just that.
Here’s what’s made me smile this week and helped make things just a little bit better.
I also got a clear coat nail polish to help extend my manicure from last weekend. I pulled up their website and saw they have a million other products, all of which are 100% vegan and cruelty-free, if you’re into that (which, who wouldn’t be if it was an option?). They’re also made without things like parabens. Do I know what parabens are? Nope. But I know they’re “bad” and Pacifica doesn’t use them, so there’s that.
I hit up another plant-based restaurant in my quest to find places that aren’t 90% BBQ and fried chicken. This time, I ventured into Herndon to check out GreenFare, a restaurant that is entirely plant-based, oil free, salt free, and organic.
I started with a lime basil kombucha, then had their creamy kale, which was served with a cashew cream sauce, potatoes, and red onions.
It was good. Not gonna lie, nowhere I’ve been so far has compared to Living Kitchen in Charlotte, but this was pretty tasty. The salt-free prep threw me off a bit and it was lacking that extra flavor. I felt a bit like a criminal shaking salt into the bowl every 5 bites, but I just felt like it needed it. It was good enough for me to take the leftovers back to my hotel, though!
Dairy Free Halo Top
Say whaaat? This more of a PSA than a favorite because this literally just got announced, so I haven’t tried it yet, but Halo Top just release 7 dairy-free flavors. I love Halo Top, but it doesn’t love me back. I think I have some lactose intolerance going on because 30 minutes after I eat ice cream my stomach rebels. I’m so pumped to try these new flavors!
Reuniting with the family
Best part of the week was seeing Riley and the babies! I’d been missing them all hard-core. I legit almost walked into a Petco earlier this week in the hopes there’d be an animal I could pet. I quickly realized how weird that would be, though, so I didn’t.
Anyway, coming home to this face was the best thing ever!
My heart! Riley and I also went grocery shopping when I got home and I made sure to get some fresh flowers since I’ll actually be around for a week to enjoy them.
Then, to make the evening even better, Riley made me mac and cheese and I went to bed super early. Heaven.
Best reactions to people being surprised with a puppy
And finally, because it’s Friday and because we need this right now, please enjoy this link to people being given puppies. If nothing else made you smile this week, surely this will.
Now it’s off to work for the day to catch up on things and drop off my rental car. After that, though, I’ve got the whole weekend off! I’m pumped to hang out in Williamsburg, spend Sunday with Riley and just relax a bit.
Have a great weekend!
