Hey there! Hope your week is going well so far. Mine’s doing just fine. I’d planned on sharing a different post with you guys today, but things have not been going according to my master plan this week.
I got the genius idea on Sunday evening to plan out my whole week: workouts, meals, outfits, etc. I wrote out a brilliant little agenda and was feeling all proud of myself when I went to bed that night. The thing is, sometimes the universe has other plans and you just have to go with it! Here’s how my day shook out…..
The Plan: Wake up at 5 AM and go to the gym for a run and ab workout.
Reality: Alarm app didn’t work for some reason and I woke up at 6:30 instead. Rushed out of bed, got ready for work, and had about 6 minutes to spare. I left work with a whopping 239 steps instead. But hey, I got almost 9 hours of sleep!
The Plan: Whole grain avocado toast topped with feta cheese, everything bagel seasoning, & red pepper flakes with a side of scrambled eggs with cheese. Homemade pumpkin spice latte on the side.
Reality: Plain avocado toast on a paper towel and no eggs. Regular coffee with a splash of PSL syrup. Close enough.
The Plan: Leave for work early so I could have a few quiet minutes in the office before everyone got there.
Reality: Left 20 minutes late. Arrived to work 10 minutes late due to traffic and ended up with a crappy parking spot.
My super productive morning was also thwarted by the dreaded, “it’s time to change your password” message on my computer. Wasted 10 more minutes trying to come up with a password with JUST the right combination of letters (upper and lower case), special characters, and numbers that hadn’t been used in the last year.
The Plan: Frozen meal from Trader Joe’s.
Reality: I got this one right!
Just as I was feeling like things were back on track, I rested my elbow on my desk and my shirt ripped……
I spent the rest of the day trying to hide the fact that my shirt was literally ripping off my body every time I bent my elbow. It was halfway up to my shoulder by the time I left.
The Plan: Something super healthy with roasted veggies.
Reality: PB&J with barbeque chips and a leftover slice of naan pizza. I did not take a picture.
I think the point to this whole post is to highlight just how far I’ve come as I get older. A few years ago, diversions from “The Plan” would’ve driven me crazy, but to be honest, I just don’t care all that much anymore. When I got home from work, I threw on some workout clothes and went for a 3 mile run. My calves were killing me from being in high heels all day, but I got it done anyway.
The Plan is nice to have as a starting point, but you can’t let it dictate your entire day. The only thing you can really do it shrug it off, figure out what you can salvage, and move on from the rest. And that banana walnut bread I was all pumped to bake over the weekend and eat for breakfast today? Well, let’s just say that’ll have to work its way onto next week’s plan…
It should be noted that while I gripe about the very “first world problems” from my Monday, it is not lost on me that millions are currently without power, food, water, or work down in Florida and the Caribbean. Many of the islands impacted are places Riley and I have visited, and we have friends and family in many of the affected areas. I’m currently looking into the best places to send any donations that will have the most immediate effect for those who need it. Any suggestions are welcome. Have a great Wednesday and please keep those struggling to rebuild their lives in your thoughts.
Are you a planner? How do you deal with the plans just don’t work out?
