You gotta love having a holiday early in the week because that means Friday comes that much sooner! After a 2-day work week, I’m already back in weekend mode. I do work, I promise. I know it sounds like every time I pop in these days I’m on vacation. I’m making up for all the 6-day work weeks during the rest of the year, so it’s fine. I used to feel bad using so many vacation days, but then I got over that. I will take my beach days, damn it!
Anyway, this weekend promises to be a good one. My parents are driving down from Richmond to grill out with us tonight and I’m excited to show them the progress on our new house. They’re bringing their dog with them, though, so I’m a little anxious that Bella won’t behave herself. For as sweet as she is, she really dislikes other dogs. Hopefully at her old age she just won’t give a crap anymore. We’ll see.
In the spirit of the weekend, I’m popping in to share my favorite things from this past week.
Bonefish date night
The folks over at Bonefish Grill generously treated me and Riley to dinner last night so I could share my thoughts on their summer offerings. As you may know, Riley and I tend to avoid chain restaurants, but this is one place I often find myself craving. Their food is really good (their bread!!) and I also love their seasonal cocktails. I’ll be back later with my review of our dinner and my thoughts on their summer menu. Spoiler alert- it was awesome!
The Husband’s Secret
I’ve seen a bunch of people mention this book and I bought it last week and started reading it on Wednesday. I can’t put it down! I’ve stayed up past my bedtime reading it and I’m pretty sure I’ll finish it today. It’s perfect summer reading!
Purely Elizabeth Granola
You guys, this stuff is amazing. I picked up a bag of the blueberry hemp flavor at Target recently and I’m in love with it. It’s vegan, gluten-free, and refined sugar free, not to mention it has perfectly sized clusters. I’ve been making yogurt parfaits all week with it and can’t wait to try the other flavors.
One-pan cheesy chicken, broccoli, and rice
I had this recipe from The Girl Who Ate Everything over on my Pinterest board and gave it a try this week. I’m a sucker for any meal that can be made in one pan and in 30 minutes or less. This one was a huge hit! Riley loved it too and it makes for perfect weekday leftovers at work. If you decide to make it, I recommend upping the seasonings a little bit. I added some onion powder and extra garlic to give it that extra bit of flavor.
I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this on Friday Favorites before, but it’s worth mentioning again because season 4 just came out on Netflix! I know because I binged it in two days…..I am a total sucker for post-apocalyptic type shows and The 100 is no exception. Each season has been better than the last one and I hate that I’ll have to wait another year for season 5!
I think it’s time to get the weekend started now, don’t you? There’s lots to be done before my parents get into town so I better get to it. Have a great weekend!
