Happy Monday, friends! How was everyone’s weekend? Hopefully it was fun and relaxing! Although my weekend was long, the time flew by.
After we closed on the house, I went into super speedy packing/moving mode. I hate dragging things out, so I’ve basically been treating this move like it’s the Crossfit Games or something. Movers don’t officially come until Friday, but we’re doing all the non-furniture items ourselves. Combine that with my little hatchback car and the fact that Riley had to work all weekend and I’ve powered through a lot of loading and unloading!
I never like to be all work and no play, though. I’m a firm believer in making time for things that matter, even if it feels like you don’t really have the time. Granted, I say no a lot. It’s necessary and important not to overload yourself to the point of being exhausted and resentful. If you have the time, though? Sometimes you just need to make it work, so I made a point to take some breaks, even when I felt like I still had so much to do.
Friday evening was one of those breaks. I’d spent all day packing and was about to make dinner when my friend Tara texted me to do something. We met up at a little wine shop/cafe for some wine and snacks.
Saturday night was date night with Riley. We went to a sushi spot for dinner and I completely forgot to take pictures. It was delicious, though. After dinner, we met friends out for drinks and to see a band. We actually stayed out until midnight and I was super proud of us for not acting like old people!
I woke up on Sunday feeling sore all over, thanks to all the manual labor from the past few days. I took the morning to relax and enjoy my coffee before take some more car loads of boxes over to the new house.
*side story- I’m a total idiot. I had the gas turned off at our current house and was only thinking about the fireplace. Totally forgot that our hot water heater is gas! So yeah, we haven’t had hot water since Friday. Needless to say I’ve taken all my clothes to the new house and will be showering over there from now on.
After an afternoon of working and a hot shower (finally!) I made the drive up to Richmond to see my girlfriends Kate and Mary. It was a spur of the moment decision and even though it was bad timing, I knew I’d regret not taking advantage of a few hours with them. We went out to the country to Kate’s parents’ farm house and sat on the porch snacking and catching up on life.
It’s such a treat to see those girls! It feels like we spent all our time together in high school and now a couple times a year is the most we usually get.
And now it’s back to work for a few days! I’ll be so glad when we’re totally settled in and can relax in our new place. In the meantime, it’s time to get this work week started. Have a great Monday!
What was the best part of your weekend?
