It’s my birthday! I turn 32 years old today and I have to say, my thirties have been pretty awesome so far. It’s pretty funny, actually. If you’d asked me what I’d be doing at 32 ten years ago, I probably would’ve thought that it sounded SO OLD. I don’t feel old today, though. In fact, I have a feeling that 32 is going to be an amazing year.
To commemorate my 32nd birthday, I thought it would be fun to do a little comparison of my life now to when I was 22.
My senior year of college was 10 years ago and I remember be so ready to graduate! My last semester was super busy with theater, sorority stuff, friends, and finishing up my degree.
After I graduated, I worked in sales for a little while before transitioning into my current job.
32- Associate Director of Admission
This is now my 9th year in my office and I love it! I have an incredible team of co-workers and I love the work that I get to do every day, helping students find their home at college.
Me and Riley
Oh man….when I think about how much Riley and I have matured in our relationship skills, it makes me so glad I’m not 22 anymore, lol. We fought ALL the time during our first year together. I knew there was long-term potential there, but that didn’t mean it was smooth sailing.
32- Smooth sailing
What a difference 10 years can make! He’s my favorite. I think we learned early on what our hot buttons were and now we pretty much never fight. Not to say we always agree on everything, because we don’t, but we’ve learned how to fight fair and be kind to each other in the process. We have a lot of fun together, but there’s also a level of comfortableness too. We are nailing this 10+ years together thing.
22- Party time!
Life was one big party at 22. That’s me shaking it on stage during Spring Break in Cabo. That whole first year after college was a bit of a party too. No homework, all that freedom, and finally having a job with income meant I spent way too much time going out.
32- In bed by 9 PM
But for real….My social life is very different than it used to. I much prefer to go out to brunch, happy hour, or take a long walk with a friend than go out and party. I think this is pretty normal as you get older. Ain’t nobody got time for that hangover!
Workouts & Health
22 = Dance dance dance
I was a dance minor in college and performed in the musicals, so I was dancing most days of the week. It was fantastic and I miss it so much! That plus my 22-year old metabolism meant I basically never had to watch what I ate. Chicken and rice with cheese sauce was a staple for me at the Mexican restaurants. I really miss that!
32 = Running, yoga, and barre
I think I was 25 the first time I went for a run. Seriously! These days I’m usually running 3 days a week and doing some form of barre or yoga 2 days a week. It’s working pretty well for me so far! I’m about 15 pounds heavier than I was at 22 and, if I’m being honest, some days that drives me crazy. I didn’t really need all that pizza, did I? Most days, though, I don’t really sweat it. Your body definitely changes as you get closer to 30 and I’m learning to be ok with that.
I’m pretty pumped for all the good things this year will bring. Paris, our 6 year wedding anniversary, buying a house, and hopefully spending lots of time running, eating, and loving life. Riley and I have dinner reservations tonight at Fat Canary, which is arguably the best restaurant in Williamsburg and we haven’t been in years. I can’t wait to have a delicious and romantic evening with my main squeeze. Cheers to a new year!
Have a great weekend everyone!
