Hey, friends! Before we get into today’s post, I have a bloggy related question for you. I’ve been noticing that my blog is running slowly and it’s driving me absolutely crazy. After realizing some other blogs I follow have the same issue, I think it’s adobe flash related to ads on my page. Well, I took down most of the ads as a test to see if it works. Also, I realized that blocking adobe flash on my browser seems to take care of it. Darn these new ads with all their random videos! Anyway, if you could give me some feedback on how my site’s loading for you, I’d appreciate it.
Now, onto today’s main topic: Food.
Who’s been working on their New Year’s resolutions?? I’m a big proponent of living healthy all year round, but there’s something inspiring and motivating about welcoming a new year and it’s only natural that we start to think of goals for ourselves as January 1 approaches.
I’m still working on my plan for the new year, but in the meantime, I’ve made an effort to step away from the cookies and get back into a healthier frame of mind. My meals from Sunday definitely reflect that, I think. In addition to buying ALL the veggies on Saturday, I’ve been juicing and working out a lot since Christmas.
Obviously, pizza will eventually be making an appearance again, but sometimes scaling back for a few days can help you get back on track. I’m Linking up for What I Ate Wednesday, so head over afterwards and see what the other bloggers are eating these days!
As soon as I woke up, I drank a mug of hot lemon water.
Riley’s been under the weather lately and I’m trying desperately not to catch it. I haven’t been sick in over a year, so hoping all the vitamin C will keep it at bay. So far so good. I’ve had a bit of stuffiness, but nothing that constitutes actually being sick.
For breakfast, I had a hard boiled egg, 1/2 a grapefruit, and rye toast with peanut butter.
After breakfast, I headed out to the gym for a run and a Nike Training Club workout.
Post-workout, I had a small glass of the beet/carrot/apple juice I made the other day.
I read somewhere that beet juice is great for after a workout. I apparently read it wrong, because you’re supposed to drink the stuff BEFORE a workout to give you energy. Needless to say, I couldn’t sit still for hours after drinking the stuff. I tried to repair our hot tub by myself and at one point I seriously considered going out for another workout. Don’t worry, I didn’t.
If you get the chance to juice some beets, DO IT. Prepping the beets will look like someone died in your kitchen, but hey, what can you do? #worthit.
Eventually I settled down and made myself a salad. I used Jennie O’s Oven-ready turkey breast as my protein. They sent me a whole turkey in November as part of my membership in the Switch Circle, then they sent just the breast this month. Riley’s been raving about it and eating turkey sandwiches every day. I think I’d get the breast before getting the whole turkey in the future, cause it was a lot juicier.
On my salad I had greens, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumber, pistachios for crunch, and the turkey. I dressed it with olive oil, lemon juice, parsley, and salt/pepper.
I grabbed a handful of mixed nuts mid-afternoon.
Dinner was leftover lasagna and a side salad, with a glass of red wine.
Not pictured was glass #2 while I was typing up blog stuff. I’m still working on that part of the “scaling back” thing.
What’s the best thing you ate yesterday?
Have you ever tried beet juice?
