After eight days in San Diego, I’m finally on my way home today! I had to dip out on you after Wednesday, but the real world required my undivided attention. Luckily, my week did not disappoint. This place was awesome!
After a couple days on my own to explore, about 7,400 others showed up and it was time to get down to business.
Yeah, it was nuts. The first day of the conference was pretty overwhelming and I started to seriously question whether I was actually an extrovert or not.
Eventually, though, I got into the groove of things and that’s when the real fun started. For the next few days I networked, presented on my school, learned about current trends, made friends, hung out with old friends, and we partied like it was our job. My coworkers back home had told me about the parties and every night there were a bunch to choose from, all easy walking distance from our hotels downtown. We hung out with the Canadian colleges at a whiskey bar, ate Mexican food with the conference directors, went to happy hour with the data companies, went to a classy wine bar, and danced all night with the Big Ten universities at a night club that they rented out just for us. The conference wrapped up with a giant block party, complete with a band and DJ.
It was fantastic. Free food and drinks for three days straight will wear you out, though, and by yesterday I had no voice left and was super tired of talking to people.
In between working and partying, I had a few great runs by the harbor.
I also ate a lot of fish tacos…
I loved the whole week, but all good things must come to an end! Today will be spent flying back to the East coast and I’m so excited to see Riley and the pets. I’d taken to petting random people’s dogs on the street, so it’ll be good to be back home with Bella.
What have you been up to? What’d I miss?
Have you ever been to a work conference? If so, what kind?
What’s your favorite kind of taco?
