My trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was exactly what I needed to wrap up a fantastic summer! There was plenty of fun sightseeing, but there was also a lot of sitting around reading books and vegging out. It was great to just spend quality time with both my parents before the craziness of fall starts.
The first couple days were spent showing me around Baton Rouge. I wouldn’t say there was a ton to see there, but we did get to see some highlights. We took a trip through LSU to see the campus.
They have their own tiger habitat for Mike, the tiger. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. They even have a Tiger Cam where you can watch him.
After checking out LSU’s campus, we headed downtown to the riverfront. The Mississippi riverfront was so pretty and the breeze off the water helped cool us off from the sticky heat.
I thought some of the architecture was so pretty, especially the old capitol building of Baton Rouge.
In addition to downtown, there were also so great shopping spots in Baton Rouge. We checked out a place called Perkins Row right near my dad’s place and had dinner, then walked around enjoying the evening and some of the shops.
The mornings and evenings were spent relaxing at my dad’s apartment. He has a total bachelor pad and doesn’t even have a TV (I read a lot of books there..), but he does have a little friend that makes the place more homey.
My mom adopted this little sweetie last time she visited to give my dad a companion. Her name is Peaches and while she’s not quite the snuggler that Coco is, she was still adorable and friendly.
I also took advantage of some down time to check out the gym at my dad’s apartment complex.
Monday my dad had to work, so my mom and I took a day trip an hour south to New Orleans.
I was so excited to check out a new city! It was rainy for part of it, but we made the best of it and explored the French Quarter.
We explored some shops, walked down Bourbon street, and even got our palms read. My palm reader informed me that I would have two kids, so I think she was a fraud because that’s not happening. She also told my mom she’d take a trip in October, so now she has license to start planning.
One of my favorite parts of New Orleans was our pit stop to Cafe Du Monde for beignets and coffee. The cafe has been open since 1862 and just serves coffee, soda, and their famous beignets.
So good! Despite the drizzle in the air, we ended up having a great few hours in New Orleans.
On the way home, we stopped to visit with Riley’s brother, Michael, his wife Sandie, and their three kids. Like a good auntie, I came with gifts so they were thrilled to see me!
It was great to visit with them and see the kids!
My last day in Baton Rouge, my mom and I had a girls day complete with manicures and shopping.
I found some great bargains, including $4.99 scarves from Charming Charlie and a great sale top from Banana Republic. It was a great way to spend my last day!
All in all, I really enjoyed my visit. Hopefully next time I go down, Riley can come with me!
Have you ever had your palm read or your fortune told?
What was the highlight of your weekend? Mine was filled with cleaning, chores, and getting my life in order after being gone for a week. I also attended a great hot yoga class!
