I’m currently wrapping up Day Four of the new staff college tour, then heading home from NC for a three day weekend. My cold hasn’t gotten better, so I’m just sticking it out until I can be parked on the couch in my yoga pants. I’m tough like that.
Yesterday was a fun day because we got to visit my parent’s alma mater, Virginia Tech. So far I’ve been having a great time with these guys!
Our tour took us all over campus and I snapped a picture on the famous drill field to send to my parents-
Their texts back killed me…
First, both parents said “OMG.” I die. Second, my mom said that they frolicked. Haha, and you all wonder how I got so weird (sorry, mom).
After our tour, we stopped at Macado’s for lunch, where I ordered the southwestern chicken salad. I topped mine with salsa instead of dressing and it hit the spot.
Later, we checked into our hotel in North Carolina and went searching for some BBQ. A crazy thunderstorm came through and we had the worst luck finding something in all the rain. The first place we saw was for sale. The second place was “closed for vacation.”
Haha, what?? At the third place, my co-worker said, “oh great, there are a ton of cars here so it must be good!” Nope. It was a car sales lot and the old BBQ sign just never got torn down.
Finally, we ended up at a random hole-in-the-wall place and were able to stuff our faces with BBQ and hush puppies.
Sadly, it was just OK, but we didn’t even care at that point!
On the agenda for today is a quick workout at the hotel gym (they actually have dumbbells, so best hotel gym so far), then visiting two schools before making the long drive home. I’m so excited to sleep in my own bed tonight. Also- and I can’t believe I’m saying this- I can’t wait to cook something in my own kitchen!
And by cook something I mean make lots of salads and smoothies, cause this girl needs to detox in a big way.
Have a good one and I’ll catch y’all later! (I’m in NC, so I feel the need to say y’all…)
What’s your favorite type of BBQ?
How did your parents meet? Mine obviously met at college. Something about my dad and his friends hollering at my mom and her friends to come to some party and she went. Ahh, I love a good love story!
