I got home at midnight Saturday night, then had all day Sunday to recoup. do laundry, and just enjoy hanging out at home while I could. Riley made sure the whole house was clean and made me a delicious homecooked meal Sunday night of baked ziti, salad, and breadsticks.
It’s my absolute favorite comfort food when I’ve been away from home. Riley knows the way to my heart is a glorious bowl of pasta, salad, and some wine! It was amazing and I’m so lucky that Riley takes such good care of me when I’ve been gone.
Monday morning, I left first thing from the office to spend a few days on the road with these crazy kids:
I’m currently on a four-day road trip with our newest, recently graduated, admission staff members to visit our peer schools and do some bonding. We’re starting our third day this morning before heading down to North Carolina for our last day, then heading home. I have a three day weekend when we return and I’m sooo ready for a couple days at home.
Touring other colleges and getting to know our newest staff members is a lot of fun, but it’s also super tiring. We’ve been walking for 3+ hours a day in the summer heat and to top it off, I’m coming down with a cold. I figure two back-to-back trips could definitely make anyone sick, so I’m not surprised, but it’s putting a damper on things for sure.
I have learned some fun facts from our visits, though. For example, did you know that James Madison was only 5’3 tall? That’s probably only interesting if you’re from VA or are super interested in US presidents. We got our picture taken with his life-size statue, though, so now we have proof of how short he was.
He was two inches shorter than me! Again, probably only interesting to history nerds, but whatever.
I hit up the hotel gym this morning for a light workout of cardio and ab work. Not the most exciting hotel gym, but it felt good to go anyway. I don’t really feel up to any intense workouts with being under the weather, but I figure the hours of walking will help keep me moving too.
Today we’re checking out my parents’ alma mater, Virginia Tech, so I’m excited to see where they attended college. I’ll see you all tomorrow from NC!
Do you ever get sick in the summer? I feel like it’s so unfair to get a cold in the middle of summer, but considering how badly I’ve been taking care of myself, I can’t say I’m surprised.
What’s your workout focus this week? For me, it’s all about maintenance and easy, steady cardio for the next few days. Once I’m back into a normal routine next week, I’ll try to get some more challenging workouts in.
